Connections for All:

Accessibility Institute Highlights

Photo of site visit participants in Marin CountyThe second of our two California C4All Institutes took place in the Bay Area on January 18th and 19th.

The Bay Area Institute kicked off with a day of training at Eastmont Computing Center in Oakland. Big thanks go out to the fabulous host team at Eastmont that included Executive Director Tony Fleming, as well as Jorge Flores and Jun Kim. Day 1 highlights included a panel discussion featuring several CTC clients with a variety of disabilities and a special session on "Reading & Writing Tools & Strategies" led by Lisa Stringer, Skills Center Director at Episcopal Community Services (ECS).

On Day 2 of the Institute, we hit the road for site visits to ECS in San Francisco and the Technology Resource Center (TRC) of Marin in San Rafael. Site visits gave Institute participants the opportunity to see the C4All Benchmarks in action at a CTC, and to learn about resources available to them at a local assistive technology center. Thanks to Lisa at ECS and Dan Phillips and Joan Nilson at TRC for their expertise…and hospitality!

Two AccessNow Award winners were selected at each day of the Institute, for a total of four recipients. Recipients from California included Firebaugh Computer Learning Center in Firebaugh, Self-Help for the Elderly in San Francisco, and Eastmont Computing Center in Oakland. We also had a winner from Michigan - Bridges to Digital Excellence in Benton Harbor!
